As an aspiring pilot, you know that becoming a pilot is not an easy journey. It takes a lot of hard work, dedication and time to achieve your goal. But, what many people don't realize is that it's not just about the hours flown in the cockpit, but also about the support network that surrounds you throughout the journey.

One of the most important things you can do for yourself as you embark on your aviation journey is to identify your support network. These are the people who will be there for you, offering their encouragement, guidance, and inspiration as you work towards your goal. These can be family members, friends, mentors, flight instructors, or even fellow aviation enthusiasts, I refer to these people in my life, as my 'Tribe'.

Over the years, my Tribe has been individuals like my incredible husband and close aviation friends, instructors, and often various aviation groups I have been involved with to seek out support and mentoring, such as Women in Aviation Australia or Australian Women Pilots' Association. These groups are full of inspiring aviators, all sharing a common goal and supporting each other in achieving it.

As you identify and nurture your tribe, you'll find that they become an integral part of your journey. They'll be there to celebrate your successes and help you through the tough times. They'll offer a listening ear when you need to vent, and a word of encouragement when you're feeling down. They'll be your sounding board for ideas and your source of inspiration.

Being part of a tribe is essential for success in any field, and aviation is no exception. Pilots who have a strong support network tend to be more successful in their careers and are better equipped to handle the challenges that come with being a pilot. Remember, you are not alone on this journey, you have a tribe that is behind you, cheering you on every step of the way.

So, as you embark on your aviation journey, take the time to identify your tribe, nurture and strengthen those relationships, accept help when it's offered, and always pay it forward by lifting others up and supporting them in their journey. As you progress in your aviation journey, it's important to remember and acknowledge those who helped you along the way and to always do your best to help others who are just starting out. Share your knowledge and experience, offer to mentor new pilots, and always be willing to lend a helping hand.

As a pilot, you'll be expected to be self-reliant and independent, but it's important to remember that it's okay to ask for help when you need it. It takes a strong person to admit they need help, and those in your Tribe will be more than happy to offer their support when you need it.

In short, having a strong support network is essential for your success as a pilot. Identifying your tribe, nurturing and strengthening those relationships is a key to a successful and fulfilling aviation journey.
