The Power of Being Seen- Why Visibility Matters

Recently something unexpected happened to me. A young pilot came up to me, and the moment we started talking, she burst into tears. At first, I was shocked—why would someone I just met have such an emotional reaction? But as she spoke, she shared something that moved me deeply: she had been following my journey for some time, and she saw in me what she dreams of achieving.

That moment reminded me of the profound responsibility we carry when we break through barriers, it’s not just about achieving personal success; it’s about the importance of being visible and showing others that they can do it too. Representation matters.

For so long, many of us have navigated life feeling like we’re the only ones, often battling against stereotypes, doubt, and isolation. But every time one of us steps forward, another woman sees a reflection of herself in that success. She sees possibility. She sees hope. She sees a path.

This young pilot’s reaction made me pause and reflect on how important it is to be present, not just in our accomplishments but in our support for others. It’s about creating a ripple effect, lifting each other up as we rise up. We are not just walking our own path—we are blazing trails for those who will come after us.

I left that conversation with a renewed sense of purpose. Success isn’t just about personal achievement; it’s about who we inspire along the way. It’s about being seen and heard, and being the encouragement someone else might need to keep going.

To all of you out there chasing your dreams: you are not alone. We are all in this together, walking side by side, pushing boundaries, and proving that nothing is unachievable. Let’s keep paying it forward, encouraging, supporting, and showing up—for ourselves, and for each other.

After all, the sky isn’t the limit—it’s just the beginning.
