Throughout my career in aviation, I've been incredibly fortunate to have the support of a community of like-minded individuals who share my passion for flying. When I first started out, there were few women in aviation, and even fewer who were supportive of each other. There is a seat at the table for all of us. I was determined to change that narrative.
I dedicated myself to supporting women in male-dominated roles, advocating for their recognition and advancement in the industry. Along the way, I found my tribe - a group of individuals who shared my vision and provided unwavering support and encouragement.
My tribe has been there for me through every challenge and triumph, offering guidance, wisdom, and a listening ear when I needed it most. They've celebrated my successes and lifted me up during the tough times. Their support has been instrumental in my career growth and personal development.
I am grateful every day for the incredible support I've received from those around me with similar interests. They have not only helped me achieve my goals but have also become lifelong friends. Together, we continue to inspire and uplift each other, creating a community that is stronger together than we are apart.
Finding your tribe and asking for support can be a little daunting, but it's essential for personal and professional growth. Here's how you can do it:
Identify Your Interests: Start by identifying your interests and passions. Look for communities, groups, or events related to those interests. This could be online forums, social media groups, networking events, or professional organizations.
Attend Events and Meetups: Attend events and meetups where you can meet like-minded individuals. These could be industry conferences, workshops, or local gatherings related to your interests. Don't be afraid to strike up conversations and connect with new people.
Join Online Communities: Join online communities and forums related to your interests. These can be great places to connect with others, ask for advice, and share your experiences. Platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook groups, and specialized forums can be valuable resources.
Volunteer or Get Involved: Volunteer for causes or organizations that align with your interests. Not only does this allow you to give back, but it also connects you with others who share your passion. Look for opportunities to get involved in leadership roles or committees to deepen your connections.
Be Authentic and Open: When reaching out to potential tribe members, be authentic and open about your interests and goals. Share your passion and enthusiasm, and don't be afraid to show vulnerability. Authenticity attracts like-minded individuals who resonate with your journey.
Ask for Support: Once you've found your tribe, don't hesitate to ask for support when you need it. Whether it's seeking advice, feedback, or emotional support, your network is there to help you. Remember, asking for support is a sign of strength, not weakness.
Give Support in Return: Building a tribe is a two-way street. Offer support, encouragement, and guidance to others in your tribe. By giving back, you strengthen your connections and create a supportive community where everyone benefits.
Finding your tribe and asking for support can be intimidating, but the rewards are immense. By connecting with like-minded individuals, you can find a sense of belonging, receive valuable advice and support, and grow both personally and professionally.
Don't be afraid to reach out and build your tribe - the journey is more fulfilling when you have a supportive community by your side.
